Sarah and I worked at Nationwide together for around 12 years, we then moved into Specialist Finance at a second charge brokerage and both felt very passionate about helping clients in this sector. It was more about common sense lending than you high street computer says no process.
One night after a few cobras in an indian restaurant we woke up with a hangover, a website and a companies house number for this company Transform. We named the business after an old system we had used at Nationwide that was so bad! It seemed like a funny idea at the time!
We started just the 2 of us with no leads, no much money, limited agencies and we just hustled for every bit of business we could get our hands on and we didn’t turn anything away. We made relationships with other brokers and passed business to each other in our areas of expertise, we got lenders in and taught ourselves about bridging and 1st charges as we’d mainly got experience in 2nd charges and we became a Specialist lending broker as opposed to the second charge brokerage we’d intended on.
We were based in Sarah’s mums house, in a little wooden annex on the side. People referred to us as the girls in the shed and we were having a ball helping clients and really making a difference to people who’d had doors closed in their faces elsewhere.
We then brought Charlotte onboard as a case manager and moved into a bigger office on Chorley New Road. We were so excited to be based amongst the accountants in a proper office, like we were now legitimate.
We then continued to hire and moved again into our long term office, it’s bigger than we needed but we wanted to be able to expand and not move again. We have a lovely big pink office with huge windows, it’s bright and we have a great team and a great fun environment. Everyone works so hard for our clients. June this year will be our 4th year in business. We made it through lockdown by the skin of our teeth, we’ve been through personal tragedies that have sometimes made it hard to get up in the morning but our dedication to our customers is what keeps us going and constantly striving to learn more, help more, give the right advice, protect people and put people in a better position
